OTTAWA — Franklin County pets as well as people have been affected by the poor economy. More pets have been dropped off at the shelter or abandoned as people lose homes or move, Emily Mathis of the Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter said. That mirrors a national trend, she said. The shelter will have a pet adopt-a-thon noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the shelter, 230 W. 19th St.. Lots of dogs, puppies and cats of all ages will be available for adoption, she said The shelter will be closed Saturday morning to prepare for the adopt-a-thon.
