TOPEKA — The cities of Ottawa and Garnett, and two Osage County rural water districts will get economic stimulus money from President Obama. Ottawa will receive $1.8 million to build a new clearwell at the water treatment plant to improve water quality, storage capabilities and operation practices. Garnett will $1.1 million to build a water line from Cedar Valley Reservoir to its city water treatment plant at Crystal Lake on the south edge of the city. City manager Joyce Martin said the new water line will improve the quality of the city’s water and allow the city to provide water to surrounding communities and water districts. Osage County Rural Water District 5 will get $1 million to build new water mains to increase water pressure and to meet state water quality standards and Rural water District 6 will get $1.1 million to expand its network to serve 35 homes that don’t have access to public water systems.
