GARNETT — The arrival of property valuation notices in Anderson County in recent weeks was mixed news for property owners. The overall value of property in Anderson County decreased about $1 million to $388 million last, county appraiser Gary Stapp said. The number of residential sales in 2008 was down more than 37 percent but the average selling price of those houses increased more than 7 percent, he said. Older homes in rural areas drew better prices on the average than similar homes in the towns, he said.
