CENTRAL HEIGHTS — The Central Heights school board could consider whether to continue the school resource officer program when the board meets at 7 p.m. today.
The district is facing a double budget whammy, said Central Heights superintendent Jim Reece. Student enrollment has been declining, which cuts state school aid, and the state is cutting its school funding, he said. Under the SRO program, a Franklin County deputy is stationed at area schools and provides security and teaches students. Because of cuts in state school funding, some area districts are having trouble paying for an SRO. Reece was invited to meet with Franklin County commissioners Monday.
