GARNETT — The Garnett First United Methodist Church will celebrate 150 years on Sunday. Celebrations will be at Sunday school, the regular church service and a special afternoon service. Beginning in 1857, a Methodist circuit rider conducted services in private homes in Garnett. The church was formally organized in the spring of 1859 with 140 members. The church congregation first met in a school house and later in a hall over a downtown store. The existing Methodist church building was finished in 1912.
