OTTAWA – Ottawa Police Chief Dennis Butler has been named to a state advisory board on domestic abuse. Kansas Attorney General Steve Six said that Butler will advise the state on starting batterer’s intervention programs in the state. The Ottawa Police Department has been a model in investigating domestic violence cases, Six said. The city and county have received one federal grant to deal with such cases and Butler said that Ottawa has applied for another that would involve a joint program with the Elizabeth Layton Center. Butler said he should know in August if the department will get the grant.
