OTTAWA — Ottawans Alan and Gina Hill and their service dog Frankie will be featured on Oprah Winfrey’s television show Friday. Alan Hill was severely injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq. In February, Hill received a trained Labrador retriever as a service dog from Puppies Behind Bars of New York. When actor Glenn Close wanted to do a film segment on the program, in which New York inmates are given puppies to raise and train as service dogs for injured service members, Alan Hill was picked for the segment, Gina Hill said. The dog has helped her husband, she said. As part of the segment, the Hills met the convict who trained Frankie. Alan Hill said he was glad for the meeting, which prompted many tears and much gratitude.
