KANSAS CITY — A Kansas City, Mo., man was convicted in federal court Monday of drug trafficking. U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said Carlos Beltran-Aguilar, 22, was arrested last fall near Mound City with two pounds of methamphetamine hidden in a box of laundry soap. Agents had been following him from Kansas City when they arrested him as part of an investigation called Black Ice, Welch said. Five other people have been arrested in the operation. Beltran-Aguilar was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute meth, possession with intent to distribute meth, and one count of maintaining a residence for the purpose of drug trafficking. He will be sentenced Aug. 25. He faces at least 10 years in prison up to life.
