OTTAWA — With a cloudy sky and light rain as the backdrop, the Ottawa chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars conducted their annual Memorial Day ceremony at Highland Cemetery. Quartermaster Paul Kah opened the ceremony with remarks giving some history of VFW’s mission of remembering the military dead. Chaplain and World War II Navy veteran Phil King gave a prayer. Kah said the graves of the veterans must always be guarded with sacred vigilance. Flowers were laid at a symbolic grave to mark the honor and remembrance due those who fought for their country.
