CENTROPOLIS — A Centropolis area man has lost nearly $1,900 because of an Internet scam, the Franklin County Sheriff’s office said. Sgt. Jeff Curry said the scammers send checks to people telling them they have won money and all they have to do is cash the check and send back part of the money to cover the taxes. The checks are fraudulent. Curry said that you should never try to cash a check that comes from an unknown source or someone you don’t know.
