WASHINGTON — Overbrook’s Meredith Foulkes ended four points shy of making the cut for Thursday’s final round of the 2009 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington. She successfully spelled ‘indebted’ and ‘hipparch” in the preliminary oral rounds but didn’t get enough points in the preliminary written test. Forty-one out of 293 spellers moved into the final round. Only one Kansas speller Kavya Shivashankar, Olathe, will be in the final round.
