MOUND CITY — Kansas artist Stan Herd will visit Linn County for the U.S. 69 ribbon-cutting in July. Herd’s visit is part of this year’s Kansas Painted Scenic Byways project. Herd, who is famous for his earthwork art, painted scenes along the nine scenic byways. That includes the Frontier Military Scenic Byway, which runs 167 miles between Fort Leavenworth and the reconstructed Fort Blair near Baxter Springs, which runs through Miami and Linn counties. Herd, Kansas transportation secretary Deb Miller and former
governor and Wildlife and Parks secretary Mike Hayden will speak at the ribbon-cutting, which will be the morning of July 22 at the junction of U.S. 69 and K-52 near Mound City.
