OTTAWA — Ottawa police, Franklin County deputies and state troopers inspected more than 1,400 vehicles and drivers during a check lane set up during the Memorial Day weekend. Police Lt. Adam Weingartner said that Ottawa police issued 78 tickets during the check lane. Tickets included one for DUI, 56 for no proof of liability insurance, seven for no driver’s license, and two for transporting open containers of beer. Ironically, the check was designed to catch seat belt violations but only one ticket for that was written and two were written for child safety restraint violations. The stepped-up enforcement campaign continues through this week.
