EAST CENTRAL KANSAS – A series of powerful thunderstorms packing torrential rains and winds of up to 80 miles an hours ripped down power lines and tree limbs through out east central Kansas. Kansas City Power & Light reported extensive power outages in the region, including eastern and southern Franklin County, southwestern Miami County and much of Linn County. Heavy tree damage and some building damage was reported in southern Franklin County, northern Anderson County, Miami and Linn counties. Rainfall totals reached more than four-and-a-half inches in some areas. Franklin County emergency management director Alan Radcliffe and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department said there was low-level flooding in those counties. The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings for parts of Miami and Linn counties for this morning and a flood warning along the Marais des Cygnes River in Miami and Linn counties through the rest of the week.
