WASHINGTON – It was a matter of bad news and good news for two Ottawa High School history students. Lindsay Frank and AannaS didn’t win the National History Day contest in Washington and the $1,000 scholarship that came with it. Instead, they won a $5,000 scholarship from the History Channel, said their high school history teacher Candy Campbell. Anna Stone said they were concerned when they weren’t listed among the winners but for the very last award, they were excited to be called to get the History Channel award and medals. Frank and Stone won the state history day with their project about Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip who also single-handedly started World War I by assassinating Austrian archduke and heir Franz Ferdinand.Their project was highlighted in a recent KOFO Community Perspective. They said they hope to try again next year.
