OTTAWA — If you’re in Ottawa for the Fourth of July, cool it because fireworks and firecrackers are a no-no inside the city limits. However, assistant Ottawa fire chief Richard Oglesby said that if you live outside the city, you should be careful with fireworks. Children shouldn’t be allowed to play with fireworks, he said. Even sparklers, that periennal children’s holiday favorite, can generate temperatures of at least 1,500 degrees, enough to melt gold, he said. Sparklers, fountains and other novelties account for more than half of the fireworks-related emergency room visits, he said.
