OTTAWA — The county commission will decide tonight if they want to buy 2,000 tons of rock salt now to treat county roads next winter. When they meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night at the county annex, they’ll decide to solicit bids from salt suppliers.
Commissioner Sue Farrell asked public works director Jim Haag if 2,000 tons would be enough for a nasty winter. Haag replied that the most the county has used is 1,500 tons and should be a suitable cushion. The county built a new shed to buy road salt at times when the price is cheap and store it for the winter.
