OSAWATOMIE — Osawatomie will move on with a plan to redo Main Street between Fifth and Sixth streets. The city has been awarded a $650,000 Streetscape grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation for the plan. The plan calls for Main Street intersections at Fifth and Sixth streets to be widened to make it easier for larger vehicles to turn. Pedestrian ramps will be built at the Fifth and Sixth intersections and at mid-block. Parking stalls in the block will be made longer. Old trees in the block will be removed and replaced with new trees, decorative plant boxes, decorative light poles and park. The work is the first of three phases. The city hopes to do the work this fall.
