OTTAWA — Ottawans celebrated Independence Day the old-fashioned way Saturday, listening to a cannon and a recitation of the Declaration of Independence at City Park and eating Territorial Kansas-style food. The old-fashioned fourth was a success, said Deb Barker, executive director of the Franklin County Historical Society. The Historical Society raised more than $600 from selling Dietrich Cabin T-shirts and Christmas ornaments and from the corn-cake breakfast, she said. Saturday’s old-Fourth event honored the 150th anniversary of the Dietrich Cabin and four generations of the Dietrich family attended. Independence Day events also include a soup-line tax-protest, the Ottawa City Band July 4 concert and the annual Jaycees’ fireworks display.
