OTTAWA — Ottawa will consider an ordinance that allows residents to install their own wind turbines to generate their own electric power. However, putting up a wind generator isn’t as cheap nor as easy as many people think, said city manager Richard Nienstedt. It could cost as much as $20,000 to build a wind generator and the pay-back period would take a long time, he said. However, many of those who want wind generators have other things in mind besides the pay-back period, he said. The city commission will consider the ordinance July 15.
