GARNETT — The Anderson County Commission could withdraw from the SEK Multi-County Health Department and start its own county health department. Commissioners have been listening to complaints from two Anderson County women who are former employees of the health department. The women said they were forced out by health department director Diane Bertone. Jean Higbie and Jo Sommer told commissioners they were forced to resign after they expressed concerns with how the SEK Multi-County Health Department has been run. Bertone attended Monday’s meeting with her attorney Chuck Apt. Commissioners met with Bertone and Apt in executive session. Those involved declined to discuss the situation with the Anderson County Review. However, after Monday’s executive session, commission chairman Dudley Feuerborn said he wants to separate from the multi-county agency and start an Anderson County health department. Feuerborn said he want county counselor James Campbell to research how the county can do that.
