GARNETT — Garnett city commissioners thanked city employees and other cities last night for their work in dealing with last week’s powerful storm. City manager Joyce Martin thanked Osawatomie utility workers who helped Garnett crews restring power lines and Lebo city and Kansas Department of Transportation employees who helped pick up tree limbs and debris. Martin and commissioners said Garnett city employees worked long hours into the night and went beyond the call of duty in restoring power and cleaning up. Last week’s storm was the third major storm to rip through the area in less than five weeks and it left most homes and businesses in and around Garnett without power and caused tens of thousands of dollars in damages to buildings, power lines, trees and crops. The microburst smashed into the area after doing damage in Ottawa. Winds hit nearly 100 miles an hour in parts of the county.
