KANSAS- Kansas unemployment in June reached the highest point since March1983, causing the state to pay out more than 20 million dollars a week in unemployment benefits, the Kansas Department of Labor reported yesterday. The state’s unemployment rate rose to 7 percent in June, up from 6.9 percent in May and 4.4 percent in June last year. Officials estimate that Kansas businesses lost 53,100 jobs in the past year, a 3.8 percent decrease overall.
