TOPEKA — Last week, Williamsburg officials were sure they weren’t going to get a federal grant for the city’s water system. But this week, city clerk Lisa Dasinger was discovered to find otherwise. Williamsburg, Rantoul, Osawatomie and Pleasanton have received federal Community Development block grants from the Kansas Department of Commerce. Williamsburg will receive nearly a half-million dollars to resurface and repaint its water tower and replace outdated water lines. Rantoul will receive $352,000 to build a new sewer lagoon and remove sludge from two wells. Osawatomie and Pleasanton will each receive $400,000. Osawatomie will use its money to renovate the library, librarian Elizabeth Trigg said. The project includes a new elevator and entrance that will make the library ADA-accessible. She said with a new elevator, the library will be able to use the basement, which will double the amount of space for the library.
Pleasanton will use its grant to rebuild several streets.
