WASHINGTON — The body of a former Navy pilot from Kansas City and the only MIA from the first Iraq war has been found. The Pentagon said new information from an Iraqi citizen led Marines to recover bones and skeletal fragments, enough to positively identify Michael Scott Speicher. Speicher was shot down over the KIraq desert on the first night of the Gulf War in 1991. Family spokesman Cindy Laquidara said the family is waiting to hear of the circumstances of Speicher’s death. Since the war, the Franklin County-based Vietnam Veterans chapter has frequently highlighted Speicher’s status as an MIA.
