OTTAWA — Franklin County K-9 officer Carl Bentley pulled over a car on I-35 near Ottawa for an obstructed license plate. Bentley’s dog indicated something was wrong and Bentley searched the car, finding $23,000 in cash in a hidden compartment behind the front seats, Franklin County Sheriff Craig Davis said. The money was seized, he sid. The driver and passenger denied knowledge of the money and deputies were forced to let them go, he said. Davis figures with that much money, it had to be drug money. The DEA took possession of the cash but will split it with Davis’ department.
