GARNETT — Garnett mayor Chris Maynard will face a Franklin County judge next Monday in connection with a May DUI arrest. Franklin County court records show Maynard was pulled over for speeding on U.S. 59 on May 5 by a state trooper when he was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The hearing is an arraignment. In an arraignment, the defendant is asked to make plea of guilty or not guilty. Maynard’s only comment was that he was sorry how the incident might reflect on the city. A first conviction for DUI is a class B misdemeanor. If he’s convicted he would have to serve at least 48 hours in jail, unless a judge orders him to complete 100 hours of community service. Maynard has been on the city commission since January 2008.
