OTTAWA — The county may vote to allow the county health department to bill private insurance companies. Health director Midge Ransom said that the county now only charges Medicare, Medicare and Health Wave. County administrator Lisa Johnson said that because the county is changing its employee health insurance program, the health department has to change how it handles the cost of serving county employees. Although the county will bill private insurers, county employees will receive services for free, she said. The county commission is scheduled to vote on the measure at their Wednesday morning meeting.
