OVERLAND PARK — Kansas Democratic Congressman Dennis Moore said he has canceled some town hall events because of death threats. Moore said he’d be more than happy to have civil discussions on the subject but says he won’t jeopardize public safety. Overland Park police spokesman Jim Weaver said all public officials receive threats from time to time, but these particular threats have surfaced since the health care debate began to heat up. Some threats have been received by telephone, some are received in writing; some are received in e-mail, Weaver said. No arrests have been made at this point but the investigation continues, he said. He was not specific as to whether federal authorities have been notified.
