COLONY — The Anderson County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of an Iola man whose body was found burned in a pickup truck north of Colony early Friday morning. Anderson County Sheriff Scot Brownrigg identified the man as 70-year-old John D. Stoneking, Sr. He declined to discuss the case other than to say it was under investigation. The Anderson County Review reports that Stoneking’s home in Iola was taped off and secured by Iola police and Allen County Sherrif’s Deputies. Besides county officers, the investigation includes the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Kansas Fire Marshal and Kansas Highway Patrol. Brownrigg said an autopsy was taking place. He said a preliminary report could be released this week.
