GARNETT — Anderson County Sheriff Scot Brownrigg said his department will get a grant to have a school resource officer. Brownrigg applied for the grant nearly two years ago but he said he was recently notified by Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins’ office that he was successful. Depending on the amount of the grant, he will have one or two SROs in Anderson County USD 365 and Crest schools. Brownrigg told the Anderson County Review if his office gets the full $80,000 request, he’ll have one officer full-time in USD 365 schools and another who will work part-time in Crest schools. A school resource officer is a deputy or police officer who teaches, provides security and acts as a liaison between students and law enforcement.
