Paola schools are struggling to handle a change in federal guidelines concerning school lunches. The change says schools must serve milk or a substitute with the same nutritional value. Paola School Superintendent Dr. Rod Allen says in theory, if a student asked for water instead of milk while going thru the lunchline, they could not give him or her water because water does not have the same nutrition…students will have to bring their water bottle with them. The change actually affects very few students who are lactose-intolerant, but Allen says its the principle of the matter that makes it an unwise guideline.
