GARNETT — The Anderson County Sheriff’s investigation into the mysterious death of an Iola man continues. The body of 70-year-old John D. Stoneking, Sr., was found in his burned-out truck Aug. 14 north of Colony. His death appears to have been the result of his truck striking a row of hay bales at the end of a dead end road and then catching fire. Anderson County Sheriff Scot Brownrigg said a preliminary autopsy report lists the cause of death as smoke inhalation, but he said the final autopsy report due later should be the last word on Stoneking’s death.
