OTTAWA — Chamber President Tom Weigand said many local businesses are starting to crawl out of the recession spiral. The local economy hasn’t been the best but some top employers such as American Eagle are planning to increase employment for Christmas and Midwest Cabinet has an increase in orders; and other industries are also ramping up, he said. The retail sector has been erratic, with good weeks and bad weeks, he said. However, Weigand said he believes the recession has bottomed out here. He said the local economy should begin to show signs of growth next year and local businesses will be ready for the return of boom times.
