OVERLAND PARK — There could be a strike looming against Kansas Gas Service. Union members accuse the company of short-changing them while the company enjoys strong profits. Emil Ramirez with the United Steel Workers, which represents 380 employees of Kansas Gas Service, including employees in the Ottawa area, said a strike could have a severe impact on customers. The company wants to reduce the health-care benefits of future employees and eliminate the pension plan for new hires, he said. Ramirez says employees have been working without a contract for some time, and the union will meet next week to discuss a possible strike.
