GARNETT — The Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall comes to Garnett this week. The Moving Wall is a one-third size replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington. It will be on display in Garnett at the Veterans Memorial Ppark at the South Lake Park from Thursday to Labor Day. Garnett mayor Chris Maynard says the wall is being brought to Garnett to honor and remember the 2.7 million men and women who served the U.S. military in Vietnam. U.S. Army Maj. John Drake will speak during the opening ceremony at 6 Thursday evening. Although the visit is paid in part by transient guest tax funds, more money is needed for food and lodging for volunteers and other miscellaneous items. An account has been set up through the Patriots Bank and donations can be dropped off at any location with checks made payable to “The Moving Wall Fund.”
