TOPEKA — The Kansas Department of Health and Environment said a second person has died of the H1N1 swine flu.  The KDHE didn’t identify the county but says the six-year old child who died was from southeast Kansas.  Health experts say that because of swine flu, the flu season is coming earlier and could be more widespread and severe.  Franklin County Health Director Midge Ransom said there are ways to protect yourself, including frequent handwashing and staying away from sneezing and coughing people.  Health authorities want to prevent the flu from exploding until vaccines can be distributed, she said.  Symptoms of swine flu include high fever, body aches, coughing, sore throat, respiratory congestion, and in some cases, diarrhea and vomiting.  Ransom said if you get swine flu, you should stay home at least 24 hours after your fever breaks.
