WELLSVILLE — The Environmental Protection Agency has ordered the Kansas Department of Transportation and the owners of a truck salvage yard near Wellsville to deal with hazardous waste at the site. The EPA said it is worried that oil and other pollutants from the Truck Wholesale salvage yard could get into Miami County’s Rock Creek and then into Hillsdale Lake. After six years of legal battles between the owners and Miami County and KDOT, KDOT started cleaning up the site in January. KDOT’s Joe Erskine said the agency will look for and clean up hazardous materials over the next few months. Hundreds of old trucks and large items have been removed from the site, he said.
