WASHINGTON — Preliminary funding for a national bio-agro-defense lab at Manhattan has cleared a joint Senate-House panel. U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback was a member of the panel that brokered the deal. The improved lab is needed to protect the nation’s food supply, he said. He said he’s glad to see it move forward. The House and Senate must vote to approve the $32 million in the final bill. Texas has filed a lawsuit trying to stop the lab from being built in Kansas.
