GARNETT — Tales of a pumpkin shortage this year aren’t Halloween scare talk. The tales are true. Anderson County pumpkin farmer Earl Peine said the local pumpkin crop appears to be worse than normal. Area pumpkin patches were nearly wiped out by a hailstorm earlier this year, he said. The wet, cool summer hasn’t been good for growing pumpkins, he said. That means there won’t be as many pumpkins this year and they will be smaller, he said.
