OTTAWA — The city of Ottawa has received a $25,000 grant from the Sunflower Foundation to help build a walking trail along 15th and Olive streets near Eisenhower Elementary school. City planning director Wynndee Lee said the new trail will provide a safe and interesting quarter-mile path in a circular pattern around Eisenhower School. The trail begins at the northwest corner of 15th and Ash streets, west to Olive, then north along Olive Street until about 14th Street. The path will then cross into school property, before coming to 13th Street, where sidewalk improvements will be made by the city and adjacent property owners. The estimated cost of the project is $67,500. Construction could begin as soon as November, she said. The Sunflower Foundation is a Topeka-based group that aims to improve the health of Kansans. Other trail partners include USD 290, ORC, ECKAN and COF.
