OTTAWA — Although he’s been Ottawa city manager for two years, the Ottawa City Commission honored Richard Nienstedt for 30 years of service as a city manager. The city also honored water plant operator William ‘Ed’ Hughes for his 30 years of service.
Nienstedt has also been city manager at Maize, North Newton and Fort Scott. He said he looked good because city employees like Hughes made him look good. Among those also recognized include those employees with 25 years of service: Michael Higbie, Dave McCurdy and Layman Miller. 20 years: Andy Haney, James Kerns, Barbara Nelson and Willis ‘Gene’ Seaton. 15 years: Kendall Broers, Stephen King, Patrick McComb and Commmissioner Gene Ramsey. 10 years: Larry Trinkle and Commissioner Rocky Fleer.
