TOPEKA — A member of the Kansas Board of Regents has been named acting secretary of the Department of Commerce by Gov. Mark Parkinson. Atchison attorney Bill Thornton has served as head of the Kansas Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He will begin next week.He will succeed Dave Kerr, who will become Missouri’s director of economic development.
