OSAWATOMIE — A former Osawatomie resident and descendant of John Brown attended the recent 150-year anniversary of John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry, W.V. Mary Buster is a direct descendant of Brown and is the great-great-granddaughter of Brown’s half-sister, Florella Adair. Buster told the Osawatomie Graphic that she drove to West Virginia for the Oct. 16 observance and re-enactment and spent three days. Buster says she learned in detail about the raid and received a personal tour of the Kennedy Farmhouse where Brown staged the raid. She said she’s proud to be related to Florella Adair and John Brown. Kerry Altenbernd, local historian who is a member of the Black Jack Battlefield Trust of Baldwin City, also attended the Harpers Ferry anniversary, Altenbernd is a frequent guest on KOFO’s 150th anniversary series aired frequently this year on Community Perspective, KOFO New’s Sunday morning public affairs program.
