LAWRENCE — A Kansas University gradate student is in critical condition at a Lawrence hospital today and Malott Hall was evacuated early this morning because of a lab accident. KU says the student, who was not identified, may have been poisoned by sodium azide, an inorganic compound used to deploy auto air bags and airliner escape chutes. KU safety officials inspected the building and reopened it this morning. University officials were planning a press conference to discuss the accident.
