WASHINGTON — First swine. Then people. Now there’s the first confirmed case of H1-N1 swine flu virus in a cat in Iowa. Some in the medical profession are wondering about the significance of what appears to be a human to pet transfer of the disease. D.r Peter Katona, associate professor of medicine at the UCLA Medical Center, told ABC News it could be the tip of the iceberg but more likely, it’s going to be something that is a novelty, but not necessarily particularly important to human transmission. Mutations occur very commonly in the pig more than any other species, so it’s not known what the virus in the cat would mean, he said.
