WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville High and Middle schools continued a long-running Veterans Day tradition Wednesday with music, ceremony and a speech by Dole Institute of Politics director Bill Lacy. He talked to students about two raids in very different times, but the raids show Americans at their best in the very worst of times – Gen. George Washington and the Continental Army’s attack on the Hessian garrison at Trenton, N.J., during the American Revolution and the U.S Army Ranger and Delta Force raid on Mogadishu, Somalia, that was the focus of the book and movie “Blackhawk Down.” In both cases, those Americans did the right thing in the face of long odds. Wellsville students and veterans also observed a moment of silence for soldiers killed last week in the shootings at Fort Hood, Texas.
