GARNETT — A Garnett family has been battling radon and mold after their toddler was hospitalized for breathing problems. Chris and Natasha Goetz moved to Garnett in March with their two daughters, 3-year-old Hope and 18-month-old Makenna, so he could be the youth pastor at the Garnett First Christian Church. Just months later the family started having respiratory problems. Makenna’s breathing problems became so bad that she ended up in Children’s Mercy Hospital for a week. Tests showed high levels of radon and four types of dangerous mold in their home. They have submitted a video to the ABC television show “Extreme Home Makeover.” However, they’ve also been talking to a local contractor about repairs to fix the radon and mold problems.
