BURLINGAME — Osage County deputies and members of the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse searched a pasture near Burlingame Tuesday. Officials wouldn’t talk about the search but said it was related to this weekend’s triple murder in Burlingame. James Kraig Kahler is in jail on a $1 million bond on charges he shot and killed his estranged wife Karen Kahler and their two teenage daughters. The Topeka Capital-Journal reported they were visiting Karen Kahler’s grandmother Dorothy Wight in Burlingame for Thanksgiving. Wight was also shot and remains in critical condition at Stormont-Vail Medical Center. The Kahlers’ 10-year-old son was also at Wight’s house but escaped uninjured and called police during the shootings, the paper reported.
