TOPEKA — Florida has asked the Kansas Ddepartment of Health and Environment to help find a Kansas child who was attacked by a coyote at a Florida campground last month. The child needs to be treated for rabies, the KDHE said. The KDHE said there’s little to go on but the child may live in the Wichita area and may not have had any treatment for rabies. Rabies is deadly but is easily preventable with vaccinations. If you think you may know the child, call the KDHE immediately at 1-877-427-7317. The KDHE also reminds that you should give rabies vaccinations to all dogs, cats, ferrets, horses and valuable breeding livestock such as cattle and sheep. If you are bitten by an animal, seek medical attention and report the bite to the public health department immediately.
